Roofing for North Carolina homes
Mid Atlantic is a full-service residential roofing company. That means whatever your roof needs — a new system from the deck up, a quick repair after a storm, an honest inspection for a real estate transaction, or a tune-up to extend the life of a roof you don’t want to replace yet — we have the trained crew, the right materials, and the warranty backing to do it correctly.
We’ve been on Triad roofs for decades. Our crews are W-2 employees who train every year and stay with us for the long term. When you hire Mid Atlantic, you’re getting the same people on day one of your project as on year ten of your warranty.
What “residential roofing” includes
This is the umbrella category for everything we do on homes. The specifics break out across these dedicated services:
- Roof Replacement — full tear-off and new system, the most common major roofing project
- Roof Repair — leak detection, flashing fixes, storm damage, missing shingles
- Flat Roofing — TPO and EPDM for porches, additions, and low-slope sections
- Gutter Installation — seamless aluminum and copper, properly sized and pitched
- Siding Installation — Hardie, vinyl, engineered wood
- Window Replacement — energy-efficient vinyl, wood, fiberglass
- Custom Chimney Caps — hand-custom copper and stainless steel
- Fence Installation — wood, vinyl, aluminum
Roofing materials we work with
The Triad’s mix of older historic neighborhoods, mid-century ranches, and newer subdivisions means we install across the full range of residential roofing systems:
Asphalt shingles (90% of what we install)
The dominant residential material in North Carolina for good reason — cost-effective, proven, and available in styles that fit virtually any home. We install architectural shingles almost exclusively (three-tab is being phased out by most manufacturers and offers worse value over the long term).
Primary brands we install: Owens Corning, GAF, CertainTeed. We’re an Owens Corning Platinum Preferred Contractor, which is the highest contractor designation Owens Corning awards.
Designer shingles
Premium profiles that mimic slate or wood shake — Owens Corning Berkshire, GAF Grand Sequoia, CertainTeed Presidential. We install these on larger homes where the roof is highly visible from the street and the homeowner wants more curb appeal than standard architectural shingles offer.
Standing seam metal
Increasingly popular for modern farmhouse builds, mountain modern homes, and any application where 50+ year life is the goal. We install painted steel (the mainstream choice) and aluminum or copper for premium applications.
Synthetic slate and shake
For older homes with original slate that can no longer be repaired economically — we install synthetic slate (CeDUR, DaVinci) that replicates the look without the weight or fragility.
Real slate and tile
Specialty applications. We install real slate on historic homes when authenticity matters more than cost. Slate is a 75-100 year material installed correctly.
Roof inspections and assessments
Beyond major work, we also do focused inspections for:
- Real estate transactions — buyer or seller wants to know the roof’s actual condition before closing
- Annual maintenance — preventive look at flashing, sealant, ventilation
- Insurance documentation — after a storm, before a claim, for a renewal
- Post-installation third-party check — verifying that another contractor’s work was done correctly
Inspection reports include photos, a written summary of condition, and an honest recommendation. We do not use inspections as a sales tool — about 40% of our inspections end with “your roof is fine, see you in a few years.”
Ventilation — the part most homeowners don’t think about
A roof that’s not properly ventilated dies young. Heat builds up in the attic, the underside of the decking cooks, the shingles age from below, and condensation in winter rots the sheathing. Most builder-grade roofs have undersized or unbalanced ventilation systems — passive vents at the ridge with too little intake at the eaves, or vice versa.
When we replace a roof, we assess the ventilation and bring it to code (typically 1 sq ft of net free area per 300 sq ft of attic, balanced between intake and exhaust). When we install ridge vents, we install continuous ridge vents with baffles — not the stamped aluminum vents that get blown out in the first hailstorm.
This is the boring part of roofing that nobody talks about and that determines whether your new roof lasts 25 years or 35 years.
