Residential Roofing in Winston-Salem — From the Crew Down the Street on Reynolda Road

Winston-Salem is our home market, not a zip code on a contact page. From Buena Vista to Konnoak Hills, our W-2 crews are on Forsyth County roofs every week.

Residential roofing in our own backyard

Winston-Salem isn’t a market we drive out to — it’s where our shop sits, on Reynolda Road just south of Wake Forest University. That means when you call for a residential roofing project here, you’re getting the closest crews we have, often on your roof within 48 hours. We work essentially all of Forsyth County from that one location, typically within a 25-minute radius of the shop.

Sitting where the Piedmont’s red-clay foothills meet the Yadkin Valley, Winston-Salem gets weather that’s hard on a roof from every direction: heavy summer thunderstorms pushing up out of Charlotte, surprise ice storms coming down from Mount Airy, and wind events that ride the I-40 corridor when a tropical system spins inland. A residential roof here has to handle all of it.

What fails on Winston-Salem homes — and what we install

The city’s housing stock varies enough that no two neighborhoods need the same roof, and we tailor the system to the home:

  • Older neighborhoods (Buena Vista, West End, Ardmore, Old Salem). On these historic brick homes the chimneys fail first — cracked original lead flashing and crumbling masonry caps. We rebuild the flashing and hand-install custom copper and stainless steel caps to match. On the most authentic historic homes we install real slate or synthetic slate (CeDUR, DaVinci) where keeping the original look matters more than cost.
  • Mid-century ranches (Sherwood Forest, Forest Hills, Konnoak Hills). These 1960s–70s homes are usually on their third or fourth decade of original three-tab shingles. We replace them with architectural shingles almost exclusively — Owens Corning, GAF, or CertainTeed — since three-tab is being phased out and offers worse long-term value.
  • Newer subdivisions out toward Clemmons, Lewisville, and Pfafftown. Here the builder-grade roofs tend to reach the end of their 20–25 year design life all at once, the whole cul-de-sac in the same season. For larger custom homes that are highly visible from the street, we step up to designer shingles (Owens Corning Berkshire, GAF Grand Sequoia) or standing seam metal on modern farmhouse builds.

We’re an Owens Corning Platinum Preferred Contractor — the top 1% of OC contractors in North America — and we install the full range above, not just one product line.

The ventilation most builder-grade roofs got wrong

A roof that isn’t properly ventilated dies young: the attic cooks, the underside of the decking ages the shingles from below, and winter condensation rots the sheathing. Plenty of Winston-Salem homes — especially the builder-grade roofs west of town — have undersized or unbalanced ventilation. On every replacement we bring it to code (roughly 1 sq ft of net free area per 300 sq ft of attic, balanced intake to exhaust) and install continuous ridge vents with baffles, not the stamped aluminum vents that blow out in the first hailstorm.

Inspections and storm work

We also do focused inspections — for real estate transactions, annual maintenance, and insurance documentation after a storm. Roughly 40% of our inspections end with “your roof is fine, see you in a few years.” After a hail or wind event we’ll climb the roof, document with photos, and give you a written report you can hand to your adjuster. We don’t pad estimates to insurers — that’s fraud, and it’s why we still have customers from twenty years ago.
