Siding for King and Stokes County homes
King sits about 25 minutes north of our Reynolda Road shop, at the southern edge of the Sauratown Mountains with Pilot Mountain visible across much of the area. The housing stock here is a mix that shapes every siding job we do: older farmhouses on 1-5 acre lots, the small subdivisions that have grown around the town center, and 1990s-2000s construction now reaching the age where its original builder-grade siding is failing. Siding is a system, not just a covering
Most siding failures aren’t failures of the material — they’re failures of what’s underneath it. The house wrap, the window and door flashing, the kickout flashing where siding meets a roof, the J-channel at penetrations. When water gets behind siding it stays there and rots the OSB sheathing, and by the time it shows on the outside the damage has been building for years. On King’s larger-lot homes with big roof-to-wall transitions and porch and dormer details, those flashing points multiply — so we build every install on the assumption that water will eventually get behind the siding and needs somewhere safe to drain.

- Vinyl (CertainTeed, Mastic) — premium-grade, not the thin stuff that warps. The sensible choice for budget-conscious replacements and rental property.

What’s actually in a proper install
We do a full tear-off down to the sheathing — never a cover-over except in specific re-side scenarios — and replace any rotted OSB or plywood we find. Then properly lapped and taped house wrap (Tyvek or equivalent), peel-and-stick flashing at window and door heads, jambs, and sills, kickout flashing at every roof-to-wall meeting, Z-flashing at horizontal lap joints, and full trim and finish carpentry — corners, frieze board, water table, and surrounds. We caulk where it belongs and leave drainage gaps open where it belongs. Hardie ordered primed gets a final paint coat.
