Flat Roofing in Mocksville, NC

From leaking porch roofs on the courthouse square to low-slope work on Highway 601 storefronts, we install the right system for Davie County's low-slope roofs — not a shingle on a slope that can't shed water.

Where flat roofs show up in Mocksville

Mocksville isn’t where you’d expect a lot of flat-roof work — Davie County is rural, with large lots, mature tree canopy, and a housing stock that runs from 1880s-1920s Victorians around the courthouse square to mid-century ranches and country farmhouses on multi-acre lots. But low-slope roofing is everywhere once you know where to look.

On the residential side, the calls we get most are porch roofs over front entries — common on the older downtown Mocksville homes — and sunroom or den additions built in the 1990s and 2000s out on the county roads. A lot of those additions were finished with shingles on a slope too flat to shed water (anything below 2:12 pitch). They’ve been chronic leak sources ever since, usually right where the addition ties into the wall of the main house.

On the commercial side, the businesses in downtown Mocksville and along the Highway 601 corridor north toward Yadkinville and south toward I-85 sit on flat and low-slope roofs almost without exception. Those are the buildings where the right single-ply system makes or breaks the whole structure.

The right system for the application

We don’t put shingles on slopes that can’t handle them. For Mocksville’s low-slope and flat sections, we install:

  • TPO membrane — white, heat-welded single-ply. The seams are mechanically fused, not glued or taped, so they don’t open up as the building moves. This is our default for residential flat sections under 1,000 sq ft and for virtually all the downtown commercial work. Good fit for porches that bake in the sun.
  • EPDM rubber — black single-ply, very proven. With Davie County’s heavy tree canopy, EPDM is often the right call on sections shaded by mature hardwoods, where the dark color won’t drive heat into the building. Also the cost-effective choice when re-roofing over existing EPDM.
  • Modified bitumen — torch-down or self-adhered, ideal for the small porch and bay-window roofs under 400 sq ft where a full TPO install isn’t justified.
  • Silicone restoration coatings — if a downtown commercial roof is aging but not yet failing, a coating can buy 10-15 more years at a fraction of replacement cost. We assess whether yours is a candidate.

As a Carlisle SynTec authorized contractor, we can back full commercial single-ply installs with manufacturer system warranties up to 30 years.

Two questions before we quote

Before recommending a fix on any Mocksville flat roof, we want to know whether the deck under the membrane is wet — once water gets into the decking or insulation, a new membrane just traps moisture that keeps eating the building. We’ll do a moisture survey or a few exploratory cuts first. We also count the leaks: one leak in an 18-year-old TPO roof is a repair; five leaks in different spots means the system is at end of life and patching is throwing money away. You get the honest answer, not the one that maximizes our invoice.

Built for the longer drive to Davie County

Mocksville is about 25-30 minutes west of our shop on Reynolda Road in Winston-Salem, off I-40 and Highway 601. The larger lots and longer driveways out here mean mobilization takes a little more planning — we bring tarps and material staging that account for the distance from truck to roof. Our crews are in-house W-2 employees, not subcontractors, so the same people who start your project finish it and clean up after themselves, longer drive or not.
