Why fences fail in Clemmons soil
Clemmons sits on the heavy red clay common across the west side of Forsyth County, and that clay is unforgiving on a fence built in a hurry. Clay holds water against a post, then swells and shrinks through the freeze-thaw cycles we get every winter. A post set shallow or dropped into a tube of concrete with no footing flare will lean within a few seasons.
